This was very different than the others I've experienced here in NWNJ. This had a slow rise in amplitude from being first perceptible and a faster decay from its peak to finally being done and imperceptible. I had enough time to clear three floors of my home ensuring nothing blew up before it ended completely.

Contrast that to micro quakes we've had around here that remind you of a storybook giant banging his hammer hard on a giant anvil. Loud and gone in an instant. Very different; always exciting. :-)

Here in Gravesend Brooklyn along with the shaking there was a series of steady, rhythmic pounding sounds, as if there were heavy equipment digging on the street outside.

Which is ironic for me because there actually is heavy equipment parked outside my window in preparation for the start of road construction. I looked out my window just to check—all the machinery was idle.

I thought I knew the feel of an earthquake, having lived in northern and central California 20-years, but this felt different.
