Speculation is heating up about former President Trump’s choice of running mate.
But the bigger question is, does it matter?
The former president is so uncommonly polarizing that there will be few voters who can be shifted one way or another by a vice presidential candidate. Trump being Trump, his eclipse of whoever is on the lower half of the ticket is likely to be total.

I want someone of action that can take on the Deep State and flush some of the marxist lifers; by the 1000’s.
I’m with you...no woman as VP pick.
It matters.
Not to balance the ticket with a “moderate”.
Not to check boxes with a black or a woman.
Not to have an experienced executive who can serve as POTUS if need be.
Not to carry on the MAGA movement in 2028.
It matter because if the deep state doesn’t fear his running mate, they will assassinate him.
Trump needs to pick someone the deep state fears as much as they fear Trump.
I think DeSantis is the best choice and the best promise for the post-Trump future.
Bingo
What if it were someone like Margaret Thatcher? (Not that I know of one with that strength and fortitude)
For those of us that lived every single day under the despicable Jimmy Carter learned not to trust any democrat almost 50 years ago. Gabbard also has endorsed Bernie Sanders and Joe Xiden among others, that is broken behavior. And she ran as a dem against Trump (had she won) in 2020. Also Reagan was a (red) governor for eight years in a huge state vs. a (blue) congressperson in a small state.
To be sure Tulsi would bring a few voters over to the Trump side but not near as many conservatives (not to be confused with GOPe) that will not vote with a democrat on the ticket.
The fact that she endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 is enough to make a person throw up. Her judgement was the same as Nancy Pelosi only four years ago. Please reconsider.
“What if it were someone like Margaret Thatcher?”
That would be fine. I think she was an anomaly. Can’t think of anyone even close to her in the USA. Our strong female pols also seem to be whack jobs and/or bimbos. Too bad they aren’t serious people with serious character.
YES! Trump’s selection of the VP must wait for the Convention because whom ever he selects will be tarnished by the Deep State Media almost at once. Trump must think outside the box. Not a politico with a long record to micro examine by the media—where they can find something in a high school yearbook to tar him with. Someone who can take the heat and fight back. Sarah Palin choked at her first big interview and Saturday Night Live finished her off with the “I can see Russia from by back door” line. Whom ever he selects will be pained as the reincarnation of David Duke and Gov. Wallace, if not Hitler and Stalin. Take your time Mr. Trump—select wisely and don’t pander to any group. Be Trump—be a leader with a man who will stick up for you and the MAGA Movement.
The elephant in the room is the stolen 2020 election.
President Trump has said all along that it was stolen - and he is determined to expose the deep state traitors who stole it. That’s why they fear him. That’s why they will stop at nothing to end him.
He needs a running mate that shares that outrage and shares that passion for exposing the deep state as traitors who stole an election and jailed people who protested it.
For me that is Keri Lake. If Ron DeSantis or JD Vance or Ben Carson or Tucker Carlson or Tulsi Gabbord or anyone can convince me that they know the election was stolen and are outraged by it - then I’d be fine with any of them.
So far - other than Trump himself - Keri Lake is the only one with the guts to fight for the truth about what happened. The rest all skirt the issue for fear of being called an election denier. We can’t have a VP who is afraid to speak the truth. MAGA is all about speaking the truth.
If they can’t come right out and say out loud “The 2020 election was stolen!” then they aren’t loyal to the cause and have no business being on the ticket with Trump. If they refuse to come right out and say it was stolen - that will signal to the deep state that they are willing to continue the coverup and they will have the green light to assassinate President Trump.
President Trump back in the White House is a huge threat to the deep state because he is determined to expose them as traitors. He needs a VP such that assassinating him does not solve their problem but only makes it worse.
I’d love to see Patrick Bet David he is a fighter and loves America.
Yes, it may matter, because contrary to most of us who will likely vote for Trump anyway, the GOP/Trump base alone may not decide the general election if it is very close, and if it is very close it will be the “independents” that may make the margin of difference. Yes, the VP choice may be important, and the GOP/Trump base should stay with Trump regardless of that choice.
Abbot would be an interesting pick. He will not bring votes, but he will be a problematic target for the media. How do you attack the handicapped man and not drive away female voters?
Kamala was the first woman and first black VP; she was the affirmative action choice.
“The Memo: The real question over Trump’s VP choice — does it matter?”
NOT to The Hill it doesn’t.
>> Gabbard interview with Tucker Carlson sealed the deal for me.<<
Me too. She would attract more votes than any other pick.
And she would do a good job at going after the failed policies of the left.
Bingo!
We will have see what Trump teams focus groups say about Tulsi Gabbard.
Some including myself would look away from past sins knowing she is going in the right direction now and her positions really dont matter when it comes to the policy choices Trump makes but those same positions would help garner more of the female and young low info voters.
Democrats today are not the same as yesteryear. They have no shame, will attack anyone, and I’m sure anyone who has had a problem with illegals, and the rest that can see the tax dollars flying in the wind will vote for Trump and Abbot. Handicapped or not, the man has a lot on the ball, and would bring some calm to the admin vs Trump’s hyper drive.
I like her, and I think she would be a good choice. Not my favorite, but she could bring some Dems to see the light, and swing to the right, like she is doing.
