It’s not like it is Daniel Ellsberg with the Pentagon Papers and publishing them in the NYT’s.

Yeah, that embarrassed a Republican President. Totally different situation.

The Pentagon Papers was a confidential summary of our involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1968. While Nixon was treated as the bad guy for his “dirty tricks” trying to prevent its release, he was not president during that time period. He tried to keep the summary under wraps as it did not paint a good picture of the USA’s recent military efforts (under LBJ). I guess it may have been tough on Eisenhower (with Nixon as V.P.) before that, but I don’t know.
