More than a month after she struck a pedestrian with her town vehicle, a Massachusetts police chief has issued a statement saying she should have informed the public about the "unfortunate accident" sooner.
Canton Police Chief Helena Rafferty said in a letter Monday that she was driving home in an official vehicle on Feb. 16 when she "accidentally struck" a Wrentham resident, identified as Michael Barry. The chief said she was turning left from South Street onto Creek Street when she caught sight of the pedestrian's reflective vest.
"I immediately applied my brakes, but unfortunately, the car made contact with him, knocking him to the ground. I immediately exited my vehicle to render first aid and called 911," she wrote.
While Rafferty said she notified Canton town officials about the incident, she expressed regret for not informing the public.
"Upon further reflection and considering the amount of attention that has been focused on Canton, I should have issued a statement sooner," she wrote.
Canton police have been under scrutiny for months, with residents even voting in November to order an independent review of the department. The specter of suspicion is tangentially related to a defendant's allegations of a cover-up in a murder case that's due to go to trial later this month.

As the date of Karen Read’s scheduled murder trial nears, a Massachusetts judge this week decided on several defense motions including a bid to have the case dismissed.
Read, 43, of Mansfield, is accused of hitting John O’Keefe, a Boston police officer, with her vehicle outside of a home in Canton during a snowstorm on Jan. 29, 2022. Prosecutors say Read and O’Keefe had both been drinking that night.
Read and her defense team claim she is the victim of a coverup. They claim O’Keefe was beaten inside the home, bitten by a dog and then left outside. She has pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree murder.

I went through and read / viewed all put out ...seeing that I was raised there in southeastern Massachusetts it peaked my interest. The broad Hafferty is one of the reasons I never returned to Massachusetts after my Army hitch...85’-93’. They will walk over anyone to keep a buck and righteousness is non-existent. A liberal cesspool ...and the cost of living there usually is well beyond the monetary side....what they are teaching now borders satanism...I was lucky I got to go to decent schools in Massachusetts from 1967-1979....voted for Reagan in 1980 and was chastised by my peers...I knew better./even being raised there. Overall why is a broad a chief anyway? money grabbing wench who couldn’t be a flatfoot on the street if she wanted too.

To hear her tell it, running over the guy was an “act of kindness.”
There must be videos of her hitting the victim in a drunken state, then running away from the scene for fear of being caught in her police car.
In MA, even when there are no traffic lights at an intersection, a driver is required to stop before turning left. A broken double yellow line means stop. I know because I’ve been cited for just such a thing. NOT stopping is a very common thing in MA.
Edited tbdailynews.com.....she falsified the official report, redacting her address from the police report...... looks like she doesn’t want people to Google her and find out that she lives in a $1.8 million house.
Taxpayers might start asking questions about how a “public servant” can afford to live in a huge 7K square foot mansion in elite Norfolk. ........she seems to be getting special treatment and consideration that the elderly man she mowed down in her drunken state that he did not get.
This is why officers tried calling Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath within minutes of finding out Rafferty was involved.
In MA, at least a couple of million or more.
Her salaRY IS $95,000 p/y.....BARELY PAYS THE
TAXES.......FORGET THE THOuSANDS FOR UPKEEP
