People are not fungible, and the way they are killed is more material than any estimate number.
Maybe this is a Jewish/Christian difference. I could see how you would think that if you felt your people were the chosen people and your children were more valuable than the Palestinian children.
I, as Christian, believe that when two groups engage in a war with one another and 5000 children are killed by bombs on one side and 500 children are killed by knives and guns on the other side....since all of the children are uniquely loved by God, the 5000 number is worse.
When you add on top of it that the side killing 5000 children has been incrementally invading the other group's country for the past 75 years...it makes it much, much worse.

And I dispute that allegation. 5,000 children were not killed by bombs. How many, it is impossible to guess at this point, and the Hamas estimates are definitely bogus for the reasons stated in the Tablet article I linked.
