DAMASCUS, April 1 (Reuters) - Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus was flattened on Monday in what Syrian and Iranian media described as an Israeli air strike, a startling apparent escalation of conflict in the Middle East that would pit Israel against Iran and its allies.
A Lebanese security source, speaking to Reuters, said one of the dead was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Iranian state television said several Iranian diplomats had been killed.
Reuters reporters at the scene in the Mezzeh district of the Syrian capital saw smoke rising from rubble of a building that had been flattened, and emergency vehicles parked outside. An Iranian flag hung from a pole in front of the debris. The Syrian and Iranian foreign ministers were both spotted at the scene.
Israel, which has repeatedly hit Iranian targets during the six-month war in Gaza, declined to comment on the incident, following its usual practice. An Israeli military spokesperson said: "We do not comment on reports in the foreign media."
Iran's Tasnim news agency said five people were killed in the Israeli strike. Syria's SANA state news agency reported an unspecified number of deaths and injuries. Since the Iranian-backed Palestinian faction Hamas' attack on Israel on Oct. 7, Israel has ramped up airstrikes in Syria against Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia and Iran's Guards, both of which support the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The best thing about these strikes in Syria is that Israel is taking out high value targets who the Israelis are not supposed to know are there. The psychological value is immense. These animals should never feel safe!!
Iran will respond with attacks of their own.
But the targets won’t be in Israel, it will be in the USA (thanks to the open borders of Quisling Puppet Biden).
An Iranian flag hung from a pole in front of the debris.
It’s a start.
Oh well, Iran funded attacks on Israel have consequences...
+++++++ Just to say that Hezbollah has plenty on aimless junk rockets they fire at Israel. They have a mix same as Hamas. What you are saying is that Hezbollah has more capable Iranian made rockets/missiles in it inventory.
Iran has an easier time smuggling rockets to Hezbollah than Hamas. Plus Hezbollah is Shiite so Iran trusts them more.
Nice.
Iran became stronger due to our destruction of Iraq.
Our border has been open my entire life…deliberately.
Votes for Democrats, slave labor for Republicans.
Oh well, US funded attacks on Russia have consequences.
Somebody is doing something.
That would make it politically efficient if not impossible for Brandon to keep telling Israel to be nice to the Hamas sociopaths.
Too bad, so sad.

Democrats needed the votes to win. Now they need Brownshirts.
Republicans want to be the minority party, and get all the perqs and none of the blame. And cheap labor for their cronies.
A lot depends on whether the Hezzies launch a major attack and whether they will do so knowing some of those US bases in Syria, Iraq, and that little corner of Jordan, are positioned to go after their logistics from Iran. Assuming of course that Biden would give the word instead of trying more of his ineffective risk management.
If Hezbollah goes all out (launching missiles as fast as they can) and the US sits back, I can see Bibi dusting off a handful of nukes.
Thank you Israel for carrying a crippled America’s water right now.
They have Russian hypersonic missiles.
Iran = Russia.
That too. The Iranians have showcased a Mach 10 of their own. The Russians owe Iran for those Shahed drones that they have put to such good use. When Israel starts landing blow for blow with Iran and Hezbollah it will not be good for either side.
