DEI hiring is bad, but any Secretary of Transportation asked that question yesterday or today who did NOT say “I have no idea” would be lying.
It’s been almost a week. If I was the Sec of Transportation and not fake nursing my pets, I would know about enough about the situation and the viable options by now to at least give a worst case estimate, like clearing the channel is the top priority and will take no later than a month. “I have no idea”…jeez, what’s he good for?
Correct! I am no supporter of buttygig, absolutely the opposite! And do ot take anything I am about to say as a defense of his statement.
I work in a Civil Engineering position for the Dept. of Transportation. I review and oversee multiple highway and bridge contracts every year.
There are dozens of unknown factors relating to both the removal of the debris, designing of a newer hopefully better bridge and then years for construction.
Designs for 1.6-mile-long bridges aren’t just sitting on the shelf waiting to be dropped into place. This contract is going to take a minimum of 5+ years at the very least.
Very basic, simple bridges for a minor two-lane road take that long from concept approval to design through construction.
This is going to be a massive undertaking. Anyone who says they have any clue whatsoever how long this is going to take is lying to you.
