Rescue workers in Baltimore are working furiously in an attempt to save the lives of dozens of people who were plunged into the frigid waters of the Patapsco River when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a container ship.
Initial reports indicate that at least a dozen cars hit the 47 degree water in addition to a 20 or so construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time. The workers were pouring concrete on to the bridge at the time of crash.
At the first press conference around 6:30 am, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace could only confirm that two people were pulled from the water. One was unhurt, the other had to be rushed to a local hospital with 'serious injuries.'
Wallace said that workers are looking for 'upwards of seven' people but that the number of missing could change as the collapse is a 'very large incident.' The chief called the efforts a 'search and rescue' operation.
At the same press conference, the White House ruled out terrorism as relating to the cause of the crash.
The rescue effort incorporates Coast Guard ships, local police boats, Baltimore's Fire Department, volunteer fire departments from the surrounding areas as well as teams of divers as the desperate search for survivors goes on.
There appeared to be an explosion on the container ship as it collided with the bridge sending container and diesel flooding into the water. One of the vehicles that fell to the water was a tractor-trailer.
The ship involved is the 948 foot long Dali, a Singaporean-flagged container which could be seen on ship tracking websites positioned stationary under the bridge following the crash.

Yep, not one of those brilliant reporters even asked if the pilots have been interviewed yet.
Buttigieg? Haven’t heard anything from that guy since the Ohio train derailment.
Hopefully most of the victims didn’t have time to process what had happened.
Thank you for the details.
It sounds like a power/loss of control issue.
I don’t see how this is terrorism. Too much complexity for too little return.
Accidents happen.
Saving anybody at this point is highly unlikely... There’s a report that two individuals have been saved. One who refused further treatment and one who was in critical condition. The one who needed no treatment is amazing.
Anybody in a vehicle that fell from that height is likely dead and if they weren’t dead to begin with, the water is freezing and they will likely be dead from hypothermia.
The actual registry can be ‘hidden’ or buried in a lot of BS
Well, an impact of substantial force (mass in motion) upon a key pillar (if you will) on a long span of bridge.
The catastrophic breakup is not surprising, unfortunately.
And that long span seemingly was counterbalancing the section on the right side of the video (which obviously sustained damage from the collapse on the left).
The whole thing is shocking to watch but not surprising once the event began.
I don’t think they could have aimed it any better if they had tried.
Just wow.
I’m certain that somehow, DEI played a role in this disaster...
Have crossed that bridge dozens of times in the 70s and 80s to avoid tunnel traffic, while driving to New England...
The two pilots know what happened. The loss of power seems to be key. Let’s hope the pilots were not impaired by drugs or incompetence. You can bet they will be investigated thoroughly. They will need lawyers. Lots of money involved.
I work in electrical distribution. If a lineman merely rolls his ankle, everyone on sight goes to pee.
Are these pilots union?
Reminds ME of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (St. Petersburg, FL) getting hit by a ship. It was a very stormy morning in May. 1980.
Gotta say I’d have more confidence in how the state will respond to this disaster if William Donald Schaefer were still in charge. But Brandon Scott and Wes Moore do not inspire my confidence.
The Ponte Milvio in Rome was built two thousand years ago, is absolutely beautiful, and it still works. You can walk on it, bike on it, or drive a car on it.
Port of Baltimore is one the busiest on the east coast. Another stunning success story for the pos Xiden and his incompetent transportation secretary.
That ship has thrown its weight around before....
The Corporate Media will find a way to blame it on MAGA.
**incompetent transportation secretary.**
‘Didn’t Earn It’ secretary.
Did it hit a support or was the tide too high that the ship structure hit the roadway.
Life long boater in Florida so know what to look for when trying to clear bridges way smaller/shorter than this one
GUYS?
The ships are piloted while they are in the harbor by these HarborMaster dudes. They drive the ships in and out because they have local knowledge.
So the ship’s flag and/or crew or captain, etc. are not likely to be relevant.
But just go ahead and bash away if that makes you feel righteous.
