Probably because the ship’s captain threw the one propeller it has into extreme reverse. Reversing a ship like this makes it unstable, twisting and turning.
Above commentator says it would have been better to just use the rudder to steer the powerless ship as best the captain could. To at least dodge the bridge supporting pylons. (But perhaps the rudder was out too along with the ships power)
The ship dropped anchor on the port (left) side?
It looks like that took her right into the pilon. Why not drop the anchor on the starboard (right) side to turn her away from that pilon?
