Yup. It was a bad design as far as protection from ship impact. But what is worse is that there were no serious modifications to the area around the piers to prevent this from happening. Not in all of these years.

Not in all of these years. One look at those piers and it is immediately obvious that this was the proverbial accident waiting to happen.

Not in all of these years.Requiring escort tugs until the vessel(s) cleared the Key Bridge might have helped, but it's too late now...(that ship has sailed).
