In the all-caps message on Friday morning, Trump wrote: ‘THROUGH HARD WORK, TALENT, AND LUCK, I CURRENTLY HAVE ALMOST FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS IN CASH, A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WHICH I INTENDED TO USE IN MY CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT.”
With that message, he completely undermined the argument his lawyers were making that he would be irreparably harmed by posting the bond due to him having to sell assets at “fire sale” prices. I would expect his appeal to have the bond reduced or stayed to be denied. Not having the money to campaign for president would not be considered “irreparable harm” by the court.
