Amid the West's continued support of Ukraine, the threat of nuclear escalation with Russia has been ever-present as the Kremlin tries to deter further NATO involvement.

While there is no indication of an impending nuclear clash between Russia and NATO, the results would be catastrophic, according to the "Plan A" simulation published by Princeton's Science and Global Security program, which estimates there would be 91.5 million casualties within hours of a nuclear conflict and many more in the following months and years.

A Russian nuclear attack on the U.S. would aim to cut essential command and control communications channels, destroy key industrial and commercial zones, cripple nuclear assets, and incapacitate American military and political leadership.

The Russians have many nasty alternatives for which responsibility would not be obvious.

Nice of you to defend Biden. Yeah, he started a war in Ukraine. He seeded in when he was veep, and let it go hot with his pushes east until Russia realized it was now or never to defend themselves.

And taterhead has constantly said he wants to get rid of Putin etc.

Yeah, Biden has taken us higher up the escalation ladder.

Always figured that bridge down there would be a good spot for a truck-nuke.

I grew up in an obvious target: Long Beach, California. That’s why we had ‘duck and cover’ drills in school. “Don’t look at the flash!” Since the 50s there hasn’t been a time there weren’t American targets for Russian missiles and bombers.

But I guess we can thank Brandon for bringing back the good ole days. Remember all the wars the dangerous Trump got us into?

“...Has there ever been a time when Russian didn’t have US targets in place?...”

Nope...

Has there ever been a time when the US didn’t have Russian targets in place?

Nope

The factory I worked at in my youth was what was called a “tertiary target”. They had a map over by the front office that showed all the potential nuclear targets in the area - a relic of the “duck and cover” era.

Same old “better red than dead” scaremongering that we were fed in the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Take note of who’s repeating this.......

They also left out Phoenix which has Luke AFB and a lot of aerospace industry. I am certain that Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson is a priority target as well.

“When the Soviet Union fell the US got a target list for Russian nukes. They almost exclusively targeted population centers. The US exclusively targeted military targets.”

You’re being naïve. We targeted every large city they have. But we go through the nicety of saying “Soviet Army HQ in Moscow”, MiG factory in Nizhny Novgorod, AK and rifle factories in Izhevsk and Tula. The Submarine and Navy base in Sevastopol. Why... we would NEVER shoot nukes at a population center. We are careful to only nuke targets LOCATED in population centers.

It makes the people who live there feel much better about us!

I'm gonna require confirmation of that rumor for both time periods of Russian governance.

I know for a fact that the Soviets targeted specific military assets, being one of them in the 60's.

Well, if Putin destroys us I hope we give him the full retaliatory response and destroy Russia. Blow the place to smithereens!

But seriously, if all this happens, the living would envy the dead and nobody would care anymore about anything except staying alive.

Most of those cities will destroy themselves before that happens.

We have targets in the UK, France, Canada among other countries. It is common sense to have war plans for every possible situation.

Isn’t Davis-Monthan mostly an airplane graveyard?
