I doubt he will push for one. E erything he’s said prior was that the states can determine it.
It would be one way to find out if he’s a true Christian or not. All I see is a lukewarm Christian. People saying Trump needs to stay out of it has no faith at all.
Well, what Trump and others have difficulty understanding is the basis of American governance of individual freedom over governmental power.
Constitutionally-protected state sovereignty from the federal government is only one example of the American de-centralized power, a cornerstone of protection of individual freedom, the basis of American governance.
Study the Declaration of Independence and its central theme of God-given individual rights and freedom, the basis of self-governance. Helps to understand the presumptions of the Constitution.
I tend to agree with you. Federalizing the abortion issue is a trap. It was a wedge issue that the radical left used to great effect for 50 years. Sending it back to the states has allowed Trump to build a larger national coalition, than he might otherwise have been able to put together.
I am an ardent pro-life advocate. I have prayed in front of abortuaries. My opinion is that the political timing for a national ban attempt is wrong — election-losing wrong.
States aren’t more capable, nor do they have a better track record of protecting individual freedoms. That s a myth, and a dangerous one.
Agree 100%. What we have now is Constitutional. A national abortion ban would not be.
Agreed.
I don’t understand the desire to put off something considered a moral imperative for the possibility of more votes.
It’s either right or wrong. If it’s up to the individual to determine whether or not it’s allowed, then keep the government and laws out of it.
The baby-killers will only be "happy" with unrestricted baby-killing for the first four or five trimesters ...
If it’s murder, it’s not unconstitutional.
If it isn’t, then government, of any kind, can get lost.
A national abortion bad is just as unconstitutional as was Roe v Wade. This is up to each individual state.
I am 100% pro life. I am also 100% pro constitutional law in the original context as written.
Unfortunately, if he doesn’t leave it to the states he will most likely mandate a 15 week abortion mandate. That would be the WORST THING HE COULD DO.
Therefore, leaving it status quo is a blessing. And we know that laws aren’t the issue for life, it’s the heart. People’s hearts are hardened; that’s why they want death of babies.
Unfortunately, too many women are one issue voters...and any pro-abortion women will vote Dem....no matter what Trump does.
But here’s the deal, when RvW was over turned, several states DID outlaw abortion. So we are way ahead of the game by no longer having a federal mandate FOR killing infants.
Let the women at the state level decide. They can vote. They’ll vote with their conscience and their feelings, good or bad. By their fruits ye shall know them. So will the Lord.
Think beyond abortion.
And abortion isn’t the killing of infants.
There are an awful lot of awful, conscienceless baby-killer people in America. Some of them even infest this forum.
I totally hate abortion and I think it should be illegal. But to return it to states and then have the same party try to federalize it in the opposite direction is just plain crazy.
You don't understand American freedom from government protected by the Constitution. Decentralized and local power (sovereign state government) is the bedrock of individual freedom over centralized federal government tyranny. Federal government tyranny is what we have now big time with the now totalitarian federal government which is poised to take away your freedom, money, and well being.
