There’s a picture of a dead/taken Cougar from the 60s in a bar on the road to Mount Rainier. Hanging by its neck it was at least 7ft long, maybe 8...and the tail nearly again as long.

It weighed 245lbs.

That cat could bite you at the torso and carry you up into a tree to bleed out.

The big males are regularly 200lbs. You don’t stand a chance.

Yes, these ladies were really lucky they were attacked by a one year old juvenile. Even so, the strength describes is incredible. Younger animals are inexperienced and often make fatal mistakes like this one did.

They are amazing animals...

Mountain lions have the largest hind legs (proportionally) of all the members of the cat family. This makes cougars great jumpers, able to leap from the ground 18 feet up into a tree. Their large hind legs also make them excellent at sprinting for short distances. From a running start, a mountain lion can jump 45 feet in a single leap. It can travel many miles at 10 mph and can reach 50 mph in a sprint.
Not much you can do to defend against that.

We were in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana last spring. In a general store in Darby, there is this incredible mount -- probably the best action mount I've ever seen. It was for sale for $15,000 but my wife said "No!" I may need to sneak back to Darby some day.

The one in the picture under the bicycle is very small.
