I've been seeing this kind of thinking among the leftists since the hippie-dippy '60s. (Yes, I was there/then.) It's an article of their faith that they will survive any collapse they induce, and will take control. Ironically 99% of them are the LEAST fitted to survive, knowing nothing about farming, animal husbandry, medicine, chemistry, hydraulics, energy production, mechanics, weather forecasting, or anything else. Once they've run out of supermarkets to loot, they'll die. Darwin will not be denied.
As Tom Wolfe wrote, the hippies underwent great relearning. Don’t share toothbrushes, don’t share bare mattresses with multiple people. Maintain personal hygiene. Doctors in late 60s SF saw diseases long since eradicated in the USA in the free love community. That these people would build a new civilization out of the ashes of that which they want to destroy is laughable.
