"United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby says they want “50%” of their hires to be “women or people of color.” United/Kirby's goal of 50% DEI hires is aggressive and probably illegal. But, it could be viewed as a positive. If United soaks up all the DEI hires, then the other airlines will have to make do with the qualified personnel that United shuns. So United/Kirby's initiative could end up making the other airlines safer.

Then again, the other airlines could just grow a backbone and hire based on merit. Lots of black people can be hired based on merit but hiring based on skin color (of any color) is stupid.
