The U.S. Embassy in Haiti is evacuating some of its personnel from the nation's capital as rampant gang violence intensifies.
"Heightened gang violence in the neighborhood near U.S. Embassy compounds and near the airport led to the State Department's decision to arrange for the departure of additional embassy personnel," the embassy, based in Port-au-Prince, said in a statement on Sunday.
The embassy remains open. The U.S. had previously warned its citizens that they should "depart Haiti as soon as possible by commercial or other privately available transportation options."
Earlier this month, armed gangs orchestrated jailbreaks from Haiti's two largest prisons and demanded the resignation of the Caribbean nation's prime minister, Ariel Henry. The Haitian leader is not currently in the country, and is petitioning the international community for a United Nations-backed security force to step in.

On shit-hole status within Central/South America....I can’t think of any place worse than Haiti. Parts of Brazil...and all of Venezuela are crappy places to live, but they both rank better than Haiti.
We’ll probably find out month or a year from now that Biden fast-tracked them by flying in the escaped prisoners from Haiti, but instead calling them “refugees”.
