The U.S. Embassy in Haiti is evacuating some of its personnel from the nation's capital as rampant gang violence intensifies.
"Heightened gang violence in the neighborhood near U.S. Embassy compounds and near the airport led to the State Department's decision to arrange for the departure of additional embassy personnel," the embassy, based in Port-au-Prince, said in a statement on Sunday.
The embassy remains open. The U.S. had previously warned its citizens that they should "depart Haiti as soon as possible by commercial or other privately available transportation options."
Earlier this month, armed gangs orchestrated jailbreaks from Haiti's two largest prisons and demanded the resignation of the Caribbean nation's prime minister, Ariel Henry. The Haitian leader is not currently in the country, and is petitioning the international community for a United Nations-backed security force to step in.

A few years ago, someone tried to talk me into going to Haiti to help out with a “Food for the Poor” program. I turned it down. I pity the people in Haiti who need help, but anyone who travels there puts themselves in grave danger.
I have a great idea. Lets bring in as many Haitians as possible into the United States. (sarcasm)

Has there ever been a country, in Africa or elsewhere, that has been effectively led by a black president or black prime-minister or black dictator?
Kinda like the same question that could be asked of a major American city. Any successes anywhere?
BTW, same question could be asked of many countries in S. America or Central America. Any successful leaders in those areas? Black/Hispanic/other?
