Well, Bush number one like many of his generation came out of WWII with a firm faith in a government elite that would pursue America's best interests. He tried to pursue America's best interests.

The problem is that he and many of his predecessors created the anti-democratic tools necessary to suffocate democracy in the US and but always thought men like themselves would temper that authority with respect for American traditions.

As the Federalist Papers argue, that is impossible: if you weaken the forms of government (and its limitations) to allow excess power to be wielded, then you inevitably get tyranny.

Bush and others created the tools necessary for the Gramscian Communists to impose a one-party state, which is what is now happening. Bush I was mistaken. These people are evil.
