Forming a line, smiling and giving a free flower and a little pamphlet about world peace is authorized now.

Like the airport Hare Krishna people used to do.👏🌷🥰🧸📔

In a letter, Hobbs claimed the bill “does not secure the border” and would be “harmful for … businesses” that hire illegal aliens to fill Arizona jobs.

The Bee and John Semmens are both gonna be put out of business. What a horrible little Communist she is!

What’s funny is that it was common practice in Arizona 40 years ago.

If an illegal was stopped by a local policeman, say the TPD, they would be detained for interview by the Border Patrol. The interview would take place almost immediately as the BP had vans roving Tucson all the time. In most cases the illegal(s) were taken into custody on the spot by the BP and transported to Nogales for deportation. The cars were impounded.

Hobbs may or may not know that. She’s too young to remember it. There was no law required; since the alien was considered to be violating 8 USC 1325 (unlawful entry) there was no need for enabling legislation; local police are completely at liberty to detain and hold someone on suspicion of violating federal law pending arrival of federal law enforcement...in this case, the BP.

And a law passed 14 years ago, SB1070, codified essentially all of this but portions were struck down as being pre-empted by federal law. As it stands it’s not enforced AFAIK.

This law is likely passed to create an issue against Hobbs. It has no chance of being passed over her veto, but now every Republican has a new stick to beat the MAMA (Make Arizona Mexico Again) Rats over the head with.

And regarding SB1070, this was the assumed topic that Jan Brewer used to pummel poor Barack Obama at Sky Harbor way back when:

Which is still too funny for words. I thought she was gonna grab him by the ears and frog march him away.
