Phelan is still in the running. He and Covey meet in a May runoff. Phelan’s hold on Beaumont is hard to crack.
Hmm looks like we celebrated too early. He has a better than even chance of winning the runoff.
When an incumbent/Speaker of the House is forced into a runoff, I suspect he has little chance of winning the runoff. Even if he eeks out a win, he will be damaged politically and will have a difficult time being elected speaker once again. Unfortunately, the Democrats and the RINOs may rally around another RINO for speaker who will give committee chairs to Democrats.
