Hundreds of thousands of salmon released in Northern California river die in 'large mortality' event
/
As many as hundreds of thousands of fall-run Chinook salmon died early last week due to suspected gas bubble disease. The fish were released into the 257-mile-long Klamath River near the California-Oregon border following November’s historic dam removal at the site, which was intended to help the stream flow freely again and bolster the habitat for the protected species.

The recent mortality event comes after three reservoirs behind the dams exposed thick sections of mud and sediment that turned the water into a murky, chocolate milk shade of brown, trapping deer that subsequently had to be euthanized. Large numbers of non-native fish species, like largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, bluegill and yellow perch, were also found dead in the drained lake beds.

I hate to imagine the catastrophe after Washington State removes four dams of the Lower Snake River. The loss of the hydroelectric power and water for agriculture would be big.

I supposed the left will blame Trump and W for this.
My Dad worked on one of the Klamath dams in the 1930’s in the WPA (he called them “CC” camps).

The Klamath region farmers are having their farms destroyed by communists, using a these fish as an excuse to turn their water off.

And the govt was supposed to have the best scientists and wildlife officials in charge of this. If a private citizen killed a tenth of thr salmon or even 1% of that amount they woiod be under the jail and fined into oblivion. I guess government privilege

Just a little bit of old knowledge. Some years ago, these same minded people, got the bright idea to help salmon smolt make it out of the Yakima river drainage. So they got the people who operate the dams that hold back water in the various resovoirs.
The result was the water came boiling down the river and was oxygenized and the fish died. Behind several of the dams on the Columbia the waters were teeming with dead salmon.
