Sarah Everard's killer Wayne Couzens should never have been police officer: Inquiry

Sarah Everard's killer Wayne Couzens should never have been a police officer and opportunities were missed to stop him, an inquiry has said.

A radical overhaul of police vetting and recruitment is needed now, the independent review found.

Couzens abducted, raped and murdered Ms Everard while off duty in March 2021.

Ms Everard's family said warning signs were "overlooked" throughout Couzens' policing career - which spanned nearly 20 years.

Police "repeatedly failed" to spot warning signs about his unsuitability to be an officer, the inquiry said, and it identified at least five incidents which were not reported to police.

The inquiry said this included evidence Couzens allegedly committed a very serious sexual assault against a child, described as barely in her teens, before his policing career began.

This was a UK case, not that it matters terribly.

Guy was a whackjob that got hired by a police force in a small town.

He drove to London in his rented civilian car, abducted a girl walking home from a pub, raped and killed her, then went home.

There have always been some bad eggs that sought the authority that came with a badge.

Small town, rural state, the 60s when everyone was friendly and honest...

We had a cop that was known to stop teenage girls and threaten them with huge fines if he didnt get certain favors. He regularly stole from local owned stores as part of his regular patrol. For some reason no one tried to do anything. Iirc, he stole a pile of VHS tapes from Blockbuster in the 80s and they had bigger lawyers and were big enough that they couldnt be threatened to drive them out of business and then something finally happened.

We have plenty of lonely swamps and deep water, you would think that someones daddy would have just happened to see him get lost one day while out fishing but somehow just kept coming back until someone from outside could step in.

Anyone wanting a badge and gun should be looked at very carefully.

Yeah, Florida had Gerard John Schaefer, suspected serial killer, and Manuel “Manny” Pardo, proven serial killer, both police officers.

Well, I’m afraid we’re heading in the opposite direction. These invaders coming across the borders, are going to be your next class of recruits.
They have no loyalty to the US, or our Constitution, or our way of life. That’s Obama’s civilian police force.
It’s all by design, and coming fast.
