40+ years ago, I was an HQ Battery Commander at Fort Bliss...you know, cooks and clerks, over 300 soldiers in all. The PT test pass rate was 98%, 5 out of 300 failed, but they passed on their next opportunity.

How did we do it? We had an hour's worth of PT five days a week. I led calisthenics for 15-20 minutes, followed by a two mile run in formation. I've always thought it was important for my soldiers to see me sweating along with them.

Agreed, Sir. I used to routinely score 270-285 on my PT test, yet I was constantly being “tape tested”. I was 5’6 and 165 with very low body fat but had to get “taped” because I was “out of the weight standard” It used to crack me up...
