I had measles and chickenpox in school. Neither was a big deal.............

When I was 6 or 7 Mother took me to a "measles party" so I would catch it. (I didn't know it at the time - she told me years later.) That was pretty much SOP in 1952. It was done for chickenpox, too. And mumps.
