A Soledad man was convicted of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.
Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni said that on Friday, a Soledad man was convicted of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.
David Merino Ramirez, 32, was found guilty of a crash on Aug. 21, 2020, that killed his passenger. Pacioni said that the crash occurred at around 9 p.m., and Ramirez was driving over 80 mph northbound on Metz Road between Greenfield and Soledad.
Due to the above-listed factors, Ramirez lost control of his vehicle, hit a dirt embankment and flipped the car upside down. His passenger, Noe Santillan, 26, was pronounced dead on the scene.
California Highway Patrol conducted several sobriety tests, and Ramirez was found to be over twice the legal limit of alcohol.
This was Ramirez's third conviction for DUI, Pacioni said. In those previous convictions, he warned about the dangers to human life that driving under the influence could cause if he continued.
That's why, Pacioni explains, Ramirez was charged with murder.
Ramirez faces 15 years to life in prison at his sentencing on March 14, 2024.
Don’t Drink and Drive over the legal limit. That is all.
Immigration status?
Hopefully he’ll be DEPORTED if he does get out of jail.
“Immigration status?”
California - it’s a safe bet.

Good advice. Better advice is not to drink and drive at all. Years ago, a guy I know had one beer (and I believe that) and later got into a minor traffic accident. The one beer had nothing to do with it.
The cop smelled the beer, and gave him a very subjective field sobriety test. He “failed” the test, and was arrested for DUI. He was cleared at the station. But who needs that hassle? Uber or a designated driver is the way to go.
It is sport to drive drunk south of the once border. Now, in the former U.S. of A, it is a cultural enrichment. Maranatha!

Seems for the last several years virtually every drunk driver story features a latino name.
Using the anti-2A script …. Why not sue the gasoline producers and vehicle manufacturers?
If the cars had interlocks preventing operation by peeps under the influence no one would get killed. /sarc
Illegal, I’d bet on it.
Ah, I think alcohol testers in cars are already mandated to be in vehicles in just a few years - or they are working on mandating them.
Can’t make this s**t up....
Don’t drink and drive PERIOD
If your at a saloon call a cab to get you home (a lot of companies will do it for free).
If your an your way home, wait until you get there to have an afternoon beer or shot.
Trust me the laws have gotten a hell of a lot more strict in the last 20 years.
