Every single company in the news seems to firing people.

Well, obviously its not the greatest economy ever, but parts of it are better or worse off. The news media and entertainment industries seem to be in very bad shape.

Part of this is the long rolling collapse of the income stream for news media. Most of that is the loss of advertising revenue. Its been clear for a long time that traditional advertising is ineffective, as a pure business proposition.

For a long time that was masked by major advertisers and corporate owners effectively subsidizing the MSM for political reasons.

CNN is the clearest case of that. Its been a telling fact that now CNN is retrenching its international operations. CNN is still the number one US international news source for the rest of the world. Its the principal way other countries get their news about the US. Consider the implications of THAT. International advertisers wanted to be on CNN, for the prestige.
