Democrats Propose Discharge Petition to Get Past Mike Johnson
Newsweek ^ | 2/13/24 | James Bickerton

Senior Democrats are suggesting that a discharge petition could be introduced to bring a $95-billion overseas aid bill to a vote in the House of Representatives if Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to introduce it.

On Tuesday the bill passed the Senate in a 70-29 vote, but it must also be approved by the House before President Joe Biden can sign it into law.

Johnson has refused to say he would bring the bill to the floor of the House, potentially halting its passage. On Monday he criticized the legislation, which would provide an additional $60 billion of military aid for Ukraine, claiming it is "silent on the most pressing issue facing our country" in reference to illegal immigration.

However, the legislation could also be brought to the floor via a discharge petition, which would require the support of 218 members, including at least four Republicans. It would then be voted on like any other piece of legislation, though this is unlikely to take place until the end of the month because of the packed congressional schedule.

This was their plan all along.

Get Ukraine funding through one body, then force it through the other.

Their agenda WILL NOT BE THWARTED.

Also part of this plan was McCarthy retiring early and Santos' expulsion. Santos' replacement will be chosen tonight.

"WHATEVER IT TAKES" is their motto.

And there are enough retiring pantywaist who will go along, because they face accountability no longer.

Discharge petition - I am not familiar with this particular DC lingo. Is that like requesting a DD214, or is that what Biden does in his Depends?

> $60 billion of military aid for Ukraine <

That money can buy a lot of gizmos for Ukraine. Right now our friends in the Military Industrial Complex are making phone calls to reluctant House members. And as we all know, donation money talks.

The “Discharge Petition” never seems to work when it is something the people want.

But, suddenly it is in play when it is something the Regime wants.

This is a spending bill.
Per the Constitution, ALL spending bills must ORIGINATE in the House.
Strip out the Ukraine funding, dump it into a House Resolution, and vote on it . . . then send it over to the Senate.

I think Johnson’s plan is to let it die in committee. Pelosi is essentially trying to get 218 votes to get it out onto the floor.

If it gets to the floor, this is an easy passage in the House. Lots of war-R’s still there.

And don’t forget the congress critters who visited Epstein Island. Whoever has that info and those videos is undoubtedly a war-hawk.

The amazing thing is that this bill contains “humanitarian” assistance for Gaza. That means millions in direct subsidies for Hamas. I guess that is the carrot to get the AOC’s to vote for this.

The House should call it The America Last bill, even on the house floor if they get their discharge petition. The speaker should insist on a roll call vote and after each name ask the question “how do you vote on the America Last bill?”

>>>Sadly, it’s “WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GO ALONG” is the GOP motto.

Also, I hope Mazi Pilip has a strong GOTV operation today to overcome the snowstorm hitting NY.

Any Republican that votes for it by joining the Democrats and helping Hakeem Jeffries become speaker for that vote should be stripped of every single committee assignment. What would happen to a democrat that did this to Pelosi when she was speaker?

Time to play hardball Johnson.

I think it means the decision is taken out of the hand of the Speaker of the House whether to bring the legislation to a vote.

In other words, they can force a vote if they get enough support.

Right now our friends in the Military Industrial Complex are making phone calls to reluctant House members.

************************************************************

Right now, some benign company somewhere in the world, like say “XQZ Capital”, is wiring bribe money to hundreds of reps and Senators including 1 president and one vice president (her vote may be needed). How do you think people like Pelosi, Obama, Sanders and others afford “SEVERAL” mansions around the world! Hopelessly corrupt!

You are right, of course. But they get around it by taking something passed by the House (sometimes stripping every word from the House bill) and amending it to what pleases the Senate. And then sending it back to the House. Don’t know if that’s the case here.

Can/will the House do the same thing—amend the Senate bill when it arrives to cut things and add things here and there?

Still looking in my copy of the US Constitution for this “foreign aid via US taxpayer dollars” clause...

Still not finding it...

I think we need to start retiring Congress critters. Kinetically, if necessary...
