One interesting detail. The unfinished part of the tower in the Bruegel painting faces East.

The unfinished part of the EU tower, and the “Many Tongues” poster faces West.

The building design was approved in 1991, before the Eastern European countries were incorporated into the EU, so an East-facing design, like the painting would have been the natural choice.

But that is not what they did.
