Mitch McConnell Turns Against Border Bill
Breitbart ^ | 2-5-24 | BRADLEY JAYE

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the shocking decision to recommend Republicans block the advancement of the Senate pro-migration border bill.

That first procedural vote was set for Wednesday. It is unknown if Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will forge ahead, although that is likely.

McConnell cited the overwhelming number of Senate Republicans planning to vote against the measure either on substance or because they wanted more time, according to Punchbowl News.

The longtime Republican leader has spoken in favor of the deal and did not express any personal hesitations about the legislation to his colleagues.

According to Punchbowl, McConnell said the political mood in the country has changed since negotiations began months ago. At that time, McConnell and Democrat leaders agreed to pair foreign aid to Ukraine, of which McConnell is the Senate’s greatest champion, with a border compromise. Democrats, although also generally in favor of aiding Ukraine’s stalemated war against Russia, used McConnell’s fervor for Ukraine aid against Republicans, dangling a proposed border compromise in exchange for aiding the European nation.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) touted his close work with McConnell on the deal. “I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this,” Schumer told reporters on Sunday.

Leaked details of the secretive deal, which McConnell’s chosen Republican lead negotiator Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and other allies denied, were confirmed Sunday upon the bill’s release. The overwhelming opposition led to McConnell altering his plan Monday night.

Even Lankford, who continued championing the deal leading up to Monday night’s Senate Republican Conference meeting, would not say after the meeting if he would vote to move forward Wednesday on the deal he negotiated, according to the Huffington Post.

Wow. Even the retarded Turtle heard the yelling of the masses.

Next he will blame others.

Talk about stupid. He knew this wasn’t going to fly.

Why did it take Trump to wake up the normally coward Republicans? And in 2015.

Idiots like Mitch haven’t learned in 40 years.

I’ll be Captain Obvious - THERE IS NO REASON FOR A NEW BILL! ENFORCE THE THOUSANDS OF EXSISTNG LAWS!

Let’s face it. Thus bill was an amnesty bill. Greedy slave masters are too cheap to pay decent money to have their yards mowed.

Sick evil human scum.

The governor of Kentucky is a hard-left Demonrat. He was re-selected in 2022 and is in the position until the beginning of 2027. If Senator McConnell wanted to be replaced by a Republican, he could have campaigned for the Republican candidate for governor in 2022.

Because for this type of bill it takes 60 votes to invoke cloture and require an up-or-down vote. That’s the way it has been in the Senate for most of its existence. Until the 1970s, it took 2/3 vote, or 67 Senators. Just imagine getting 67 votes for a controversial bill in 2024.
Unless the entire Uniparty votes as a bloc, it fails.

Before that, have term limits for government employees. I figure 4 years is already too much of a burden.

The effort to pass the Senate’s bipartisan border bill collapsed Tuesday after Republicans backed away from the package, effectively punting on the issue until after November and infuriating Democrats in the process.

Top Senate Republicans said they would block the chamber from beginning to consider the bill, with more than half the conference declaring their outright opposition. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) had planned to bring the $118 billion supplemental to the floor Wednesday.

Yes, of course.

The Governor of Oklahoma, OTOH, is a Republican. Know what I'm sayin'?

I like Rand Paul, too. Occasionally, I disagree, but; few agree 100% with anyone.
