Do climate change deniers bend the facts to avoid having to modify their environmentally harmful behavior? Researchers from the University of Bonn and the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) ran an online experiment involving 4,000 US adults, and found no evidence to support this idea. The authors of the study were themselves surprised by the results. Whether they are good or bad news for the fight against global heating remains to be seen. The study is published in the journal Nature Climate Change.
A surprisingly large number of people still downplay the impact of climate change or deny that it is primarily a product of human activity. But why? One hypothesis is that these misconceptions are rooted in a specific form of self-deception, namely that people simply find it easier to live with their own climate failings if they do not believe that things will actually get all that bad.
"We call this thought process 'motivated reasoning,'" says Professor Florian Zimmermann, an economist at the University of Bonn and Research Director at IZA.

That’s correct.
“I don’t deny climate change. I just don’t care about.
Is the climate changing? It’s always changing. Does industrialization play a role in it? Perhaps.
Is a warmer earth going to be catastrophic? Nope.
Do I want to return to a life reminiscent of the Dark Ages to mitigate it? Not a chance.”

BTW, I see they've invented a new term for their preoccupation. Now it's "human-made global heating." I guess "warming" and "change" just didn't sound dire enough.
Because some people are still able to engage with reality, and understand that a temperature record 1850-2024 is a blink of an eye in the history of man and the Earth.
Did they study all 17 climates or just the 1 they think is in Crisis ,LOL
Always seek the null hypothesis of anything carrying a “science” brand.
The null hypothesis of “climate change” is that, absent human activity, that the “climate” a) is measurable, and b) is invariant.
A trivial knowledge, even of history, but especially of anthropology, oceanography, geology, or paleontology immediately falsifies the null hypothesis, which is why schooling is beong destroyed.
Climate Hoax.
It’s part of the war on forms of energy that the liberals in government don’t control.
They’re doing the same thing to energy that they did with the media, Hollywood, education, healthcare, the military, the internet, etc.
It’s all about getting control, nothing else.
Like I said, Climate Hoax.
How come people who believe in climate change don’t modify their environmentally damaging behaviors?
They’re hypocrites, that’s why.
How dare we question their dogma! Human induced climate change is the religion of the left and abortion is their “sacrament”!
CRITICAL THINKING
Again, IF the scientific community as a whole, and those in power in various governments TRULY believed that we are on the fringe of disaster they would be pushing for an immediate switch to nuclear energy - with safer new generation reactors. That they are not tell you their true motivations and personal beliefs.
Phys.org has a very low bar for what they re-post e.g. aggregate as ‘newsworthy’.
The title itself betrays this as trash ‘research’ with an agenda.
The better question is “Why are doom and gloomers about natural cyclical events such as the climate which fluctuates cosntantly such liars?”
Fortunately, our neighbors to the north who are currently freaking out about their now astronomical grocery prices are providing a very good lesson as to what happens when the people vote themselves a carbon tax.
We'd be wise to pay attention.
Anthropogenic climate change is a hoax.
Climate change denier? No. I know from real science that the climate has never stopped changing. And the the one thing that is the primary cause for the change is the sun and its cycles and our little planet’s relationship to it (tilt).
“”We call this thought process ‘motivated reasoning,’” says Professor Florian Zimmermann, “
I call Professor Zimmerman an overpaid useless dips**t .
Precisely, Starting off from a preconceived point is a fatal error.
