That was in response to the US succeeding in the violent overthrowing of the democratically elected president of Ukraine in order to get a US warmonger in there. We are good at that.

There was a reason the Ukrainian PEOPLE rose against Yanukovych. They had expected him to sign an Association Agreement with the EU. When he reneged on that promise the PEOPLE rose up against him. Moscow keeps claiming that the CIA somehow activated 100,000 robots to create the Maidan demonstration, but that doesn't pass the sniff test. With the PEOPLE against him en masse Yanukovich fled to Moscow, and Putin activated Plan B. Which was the utterly illegal seizure of Crimea by military force.

If anybody is still on the thread, read the BBC timeline (start at the bottom) to get a notion of how Yanukovich came to power in the first place, how he broke faith with the Ukrainian people. how they reacted, and how his goons started gunning down the demonstrators.
