Going back to having State Legis voting for Senators is ideal but won't fly with the people. I think baby steps, such as shortening the term from 6 years to 2 would be doable since they are just glorified Reps anyway. Make the entire Legislative Branch prove their worth every two years if direct election is the method of choice. If 6 years go back to State Legislatures appointing the pricks.

In any event, it would take a huge grassroots effort to apply leverage on the Senate, something "the people" never do.

I’ve been a proponent of two year terms for glorified Representatives for many years.

The lack of a two year term should have torpedoed the seventeenth amendment from the git go. I’d call it fake and fraud ratification at best.

The way out, is everyone, everywhere, everything, every 4 years. Right down to the state / local level.

One, you would starve perpetual campaign slugs like Rick Wilson.

Two, you would starve the MSM for funding perpetual campaign slugs like Steponallofus and MSMNBC.

Three, you would give the Republic what it wants when it wants it, and then be forced to live with that choice. The amount of vitriol built up in four years would be fantastic, like a powder keg.

Four, that vitriol would cause the pendulum to 'snap back' consistently, and you would have actual conservative majorities, even trifectas, from time to time.

Five, an actual conservative trifecta could achieve real election reform, including strict election-day voting.
