“Navy Recognition is one of the most popular online media covering Naval Forces, Defense Industry, Navy Technology and Maritime Security.”

Navy Recognition puts it at 550 tons.

[...]

Despite its relatively modest displacement of 550 tons, the Ivanovets is armed with four Moskit supersonic anti-ship missiles.”

The Ivanovets belongs to the Molniya class.

My Russian source says, in Google translation:

The missile corvette of Project 12411 is a further development of the Molniya (Lightning) family corvettes, developed for export. It differs from its predecessor (Project 1241RE corvettes) in that the outdated P-20 missile system (SS-N-2 Styx) has been replaced by the Moskit (SS-N-22 Sunburn) missile system which fires supersonic antiship missiles, and that the new multirole radar system has been installed. With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons, "Molniya" is equipped with four Moskit supersonic anti-vessel missiles.

It's nice to hear the Molniya had 550 tons displacement.

However, specifically for Ivanovets, it says:

Guided missile corvette R-334 laid down 04 January 1988, Sredne-Nevskiy Shipyard, Pontonny (yard No.211), launched 28 July 1989, commissioned 30 December 1989.

29 October 1998 renamed to Ivanovets.

Now in service.

Must be more of that Russian disinfo about their own stuff.

It's a good thing we have Army Wikipedia experts to correct Russia on the displacement of its own naval vessels.

It’s the same thing the Ruzzians do to Ukrainians every day. And yes, the Ruzzians are copying the Nazis.

Here is your entire page, notice the CURRENT displacement and what ship they are writing about.

You are confused. Let me help.

The Ivanovets is one of three "ships" of the 295th Sulinsky Missile Boat Battalion, which now appears to have been reduced to two ships. Each of the three is listed at 493 tons fully loaded displacement. Your nonsense is boring.

https://www.kchf.ru/eng/ship/warfarecorvettes/ivanovets.htm

Why on Earth did the Russians put a ship in the 295th Sulinsky Missile Boat Battalion? Why did they call it a boat battalion? Must be another Russian disinfo campaign.

Let's try a Bulgarian source.

Swarm attack literary sank a Russian warship Ivanovets in a lake

By Alexey Lenkov On Feb 1, 2024

[excerpt]

What do we know about Ivanovets?

Allow me to introduce you to the missile boat “Ivanovets,” a part of the 1241 “Molnia” project. This marine marvel first took to the water in 1989. Its standard configuration includes four R-270 “Moskit” anti-ship missiles. Originally designed to have a launch range of 90-120 km, these powerful missiles are rumored to have a much longer reach – up to 240-250 km with an elevated flight path in advanced versions.

Now, regarding its size, don’t let the term ‘boat’ mislead you. The “Ivanovets” boasts a substantial stature for a vessel of its class. It features a displacement of 493 tons, and its structure spans an impressive 56 meters. The nature of this boat’s work necessitates a diligent crew of 41 individuals. Among all of the vessels in the Russian Federation’s Black Sea Fleet, there are only two of these robust missile boats still in active service.

The reason Ivanovets classifies as a boat is that it has less than 500 tons displacement. Like they said, don't let the term 'boat' mislead you; it's a really big boat. Or maybe it is just part of a Russian disinfo conspiracy.

And then there is the Ukrainian News.

Defense Intelligence special unit fighters destroy russian missile boat Ivanovets in Crimea

Editor: Tetiana Herasimova

On the night of January 31 to February 1, soldiers of the Group 13 special unit of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine destroyed the Ivanovets missile boat of the Black Sea Fleet of the aggressor country of the russian federation.

This is stated in the message of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

The Ukrainians are part of the Russian disinfo conspiracy as well!

Another Ukrainian source.

The crew consists of 41 people, the water displacement is 493 tons, length is 56 meters. That is, despite being classified as a "boat," it is a rather large combat unit. Now the russian Black Sea Fleet only has two corvettes of this type remaining in service.

Despite being classified as a boat, it is rather large. So, there's that.

The disinfo conspiracy is massive! /s

The second of three ships of the 295th Sulinsky Missile Boat Battalion is the Naberezhnye Chelny.

The entire page of your Russian ship source is in post 84.

I will let other people read the 550-ton displacement.

By all means, demonstrate that you are incapable of reading and comprehending a simple paragraph. It says the Molinya has a 550 ton displacement.

"With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons, “Molniya” is equipped with four Moskit supersonic anti-vessel missiles."

Molniya is not Ivanovets.

It states the full load displacement of the Ivanovets, the R-239 Naberezhnye Chelny and the Missile Corvette R-60 is 493 tons each, and lists them as the three ships of the 295th Sulinsky Missile Boat Battalion.

I will let people see that you are playing at being as dense as possible. Your response to my #85 is pathetic.

Read it again, it is titled for and about the Ivanovets, the name of the ship they are reporting on, and the name Russia switched to a quarter century ago.

Once the text is over if you go below the line to some numbers, are old numbers that are outdated for the Ivanovets the text is about. The same applies to the other two you named, 550 tons for all three.

R-239 Naberezhnye Chelny=550 Tons.
Missile Corvette R-60=550 Tons.

Here is the same source on the other two

Read it and comprehend it for the first time.

https://www.kchf.ru/eng/ship/warfarecorvettes/ivanovets.htm

Guided missile corvette R-334 laid down 04 January 1988, Sredne-Nevskiy Shipyard, Pontonny (yard No.211), launched 28 July 1989, commissioned 30 December 1989.

29 October 1998 renamed to Ivanovets.

Ivanovets is iu the "Lightning" family of boats, designed to be fast. "Molniya" is the Russian word for lightning. It is not the name of a boat that was renamed to lvanovets. All the boats of the Lightning (Molniya) family were of the Molniya family in Russian. Russians do as Russians do.

Each boat or ship gets a yard name while under construction. The boat with yard name R-334 later became Ivanovets. It was never Molniya. The exact same text is applied to R-239 Naberezhnye Chelny and R-60 and did not make either of them a boat named Molniya either. Molniya is not the name of a boat. It is the Russian word for lightning applied to a family of boats to include various project numbers. For exammple:

The gun fire control system detects air and surface targets, performs automatic tracking, and computes firing data. The radar which is used to detect surface targets provides fire control system with designation data for five targets at a time. The corvette is also fitted with active radar jammers and IFF radar. The missile corvette is equipped with the full set of navigation and communication equipment, powerful gas turbine power plant, air-conditioning and ventilation systems to provide efficient operation in any climatic conditions.

Besides strike missiles, the corvette has anti-aircraft missile weapons and automatic artillery installations. It has 12 portable anti-aircraft missile complexes "Igla" meant to hit air targets in conditions of natural visibility. The on-board rapid-fire 76mm and 30mm artillery guns are meant to destroy air, surface and coastal targets. They can also be used to liquidate floating mines. "Molniya" also has two launchers and combined-interference shells to protect targets from anti-boat weapons with different guidance systems. The boat's speed is up to 40 knots, sailing range up to 1,600 miles, crew 40 members.

Missile Corvette R-60 laid down 10 December 1985 at the Sredne-Nevskiy Shipyard, Pontonny (yard No.207), launched 30 December 1986, commissioned 12 December 1987.

Missile Corvette R-60 was further modernized in 2005, having the 2 AK-630M CIWS removed, and replaced with Palash CIWS.

Now in service.

Same specifications as Ivanovets and Naberezhnye Chelny.

It is still just R-60. It has never been named Molniya. The precise same text does not say, in any case, that any ship was named Molniya, or changed its name from Molniya to something else.

You have your work cut out to convince the world and Russia.

They all say the same thing 550 tons.

“With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons”

You have your work cut out to convince the world and Russia.

As a positive, I am not the one who has to explain how I came to identify Molnyia as a ship that was renamed Ivanovets.

They all say the same thing 550 tons.

“With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons”

Yep, they all say the same thing in describing the Molniya family of vessels, Molniya not being a vessel, but the Russian word for lightning which the Russians designated as the name of the family of vessels. Includes Project 1241.1, Project 1241.RE, Project 12411 (1241.1M/1241.1MR), Project 12417, Project 1242.1/1241.8, Project 12418.

But Molniya is the name applied to the entire family which includes various Project numbers, each with its own unique draught. After using the boilerplate prefacing each class, the source gives the precise specifications for each Project number. The R-234 Ivanovets, R-239 Naberezhnye Chelny, and R-60 are separately specified to have a full load draft of 493 tons.

https://russianships.info/eng/warfareboats/project_12411.htm

Project 12418 specifies 500 tons full load draught.
Project 12417 specfies 495 tons full load draught.
Project 1241RE specifies 455 tons full load draught.
Project 12411T specifies 469 tons full load draught.

The missile boat Ivanovets was sunk while patrolling Lake Donuzlav. Ivanovets was not designed as an ocean going vessel but as a vessel with a low draught to sail coastal waters, such as Lake Donuslav. Vessels not seaworthy for the oceans are not classified as ships. Vessels with a draught less than 500 tons are not classified as ships. Vessels assigned to a Boat Battalion are not assigned to an ocean going fleet. Naval sailors refer to the crews of Coast Guard coastal patrol craft as shallow water sailors. Molniya refers to a family of vessels under various Project Numbers, each project having a unique configuration and draught.

Boats designed for use in coastal waters or lakes feature a flat or nearly flat bottom to minimize draught. It is quite stable in calm conditions. The nearest USN equivalent is the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS); 'more expendable and maneuverable “street fighter” corvettes specializing in littoral operations,' i.e., an operation on a sea, lake, or river that is close to the shore. The version that emerged from design to USN milspec, like a mouse to an elephant, boasted "the ability to operate in shallow waters due to their draft of only thirteen or fourteen feet." The Ivanovets boasted a draught of 2.5 meters, ~8 feet two inches. I reckon that sailing the seven seas on Ivanovets would be like bull riding. It was made to sail along the shoreline.

I might as well point out the howler at the beginning of the thread article.

the corvette was damaged, rolled to the stern, and sank

There is no such thing as rolling to stern. A ship may roll to port or starboard (to the ship's left or right side). In this case the boat visibly listed to starboard. The video shows the boat going down by the stern.

Roll is defined as "The side-to-side motion of a vessel as it rotates about the fore-aft (longitudinal) axis. Listing is a lasting, stable tilt, or heel, along this longitudinal axis."

The fore-aft (longitudinal) axis is also referred to as the X-axis.

Roll occurs due the forces of nature, i.e. wind or the motion of the ocean. Listing occurs as the result of an other-then-natural application of external force, such as an exploding torpedo. "Rolled to stern" occurs in an article because the author is nautically challenged, and too lazy to look up the meaning of the terminology he employs.

Here Is Why the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ships Punch below Their Weight

In today’s global environment, the LCS’s shortcomings are glaring.

by Sebastien Roblin

[excerpts]

The U.S. Navy’s newest class of small surface combatants, the Littoral Combat Ships, come with a few minor flaws. They don’t have the firepower to hit anything more than a few miles away. They’re unlikely to survive being hit by anything in return. They cost more than twice as much as promised, and require 75 percent more crew to operate than planned for. The modular-mission capabilities that were a key selling point had to be abandoned. And they’re breaking down constantly.

[...]

Therefore, the Navy decided to build a new generation of smaller, more expendable and maneuverable “street fighter” corvettes specializing in littoral operations to replace its frigates.

[...]

The ships also swelled in size from the original leaner concept, bulking considerably more than corvettes without a commensurate increase in armament.

Of the two types, the larger Freedom class displaces 3,900 tons, is more conventional in appearance and is considered better for shallow-water ops; it has a tougher steel hull, possesses superior maneuverability, and can more easily deploy launches for special ops and boarding missions. By contrast, the Independence class has a space-agey trimaran (triple) hull made of lightweight but flammable aluminum; it boasts a huge flight deck and extra fuel storage, and is considered optimal for blue-water antisubmarine escort duty. Both can carry similar armament and mission modules.

One of the major virtues of the small ships was supposed to be their low cost, at a mere $220 million dollars each. But the design process led to final costs ballooning to around the $500 million mark instead.

[...]

The LCSs do have their strengths—particularly the ability to operate in shallow waters due to their draft of only thirteen or fourteen feet, and surge to high speeds of forty-four to forty-seven knots (about fifty miles per hour), affording them superior mobility. Furthermore, their hulls have been designed for stealth, and should benefit from lower detection ranges.

Project 12417 specfies 495 tons full load displacement.
Project 1241RE specifies 455 tons full load displacement.
Project 12411T specifies 469 tons full load displacement.

Your dishonest quote does not say R-234 Ivanovets or R-239 Naberezhnye Chelny or R-60 equals 550 tons. It refers to Molniya which imaginary vessel you embarrassingly claimed was a ship whose name was changed to Ivanovets. Your reading of the paragraph was quite imaginative. Repeated ridiculously dishonest claims only reinforces the extent of your subject matter incompetence.

Every Project number specifies a different displacement tonnage. In order to maintain your flat earth fantasy, you must insist that all the different Projects, with all the different configurations, have precisely the same displacement.

https://www.kchf.ru/eng/ship/warfarecorvettes/r60.htm

Project 1242.1 Molniya

The missile boat of Project 1242.1 is a further development of the Molniya (Lightning) family boats, developed for export. It differs from its predecessor (Project 1241RE boats) in that the outdated P-20 missile system [SS-N-2 Styx] has been replaced by the Moskit-E (SS-N-22 Sunburn) missile system which fires supersonic antiship missiles, and that the new Garpun-Bal multirole radar system has been installed. Trials of the first boat of the class have already been completed.

The Project 1242.1 Molniya Missile Boat is intended to engage combatant ships, amphibious ships, and other vessels at open sea. It has the variety of weapons with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air capabilities. The unique radar system covers the missile entire effective range, tracing concurrently 15 targets, and assigns six designated targets under intensive EW environment. The gun fire control system detects air and surface targets, performs automatic tracking, and computes firing data. The radar which is used to detect surface targets provides fire control system with designation data for five targets at a time. The boat is also fitted with active radar jammers and IFF radar. The missile boat is equipped with the full set of navigation and communication equipment, powerful gas turbine power plant , air-conditioning and ventilation systems to provide efficient operation in any climatic conditions.

Russia has tested and put into production a new missile vessel, "Molniya ", armed with four Moskit missiles. The Molniya is a follow-on to the successful Soviet Tarantul-class missile boats. The St. Petersburg-based design company, Almaz, has developed an export version of the Molniya boat. The unique Russian missile boat "Molniya " is available in a tropical modification. The vessel can destroy surface ships, transport and landing facilities in a coastal zone and out at sea.

With its comparatively inconsiderable displacement of 550 tons, "Molniya " is equipped with four "Moskit" supersonic anti-vessel missiles. The first launch of Russia's newest supersonic anti-ship missile, the Moskit SS-N-22 Sunburn, was conducted from an export Molniya fast missile boat at the Feodosia test range late in October 1999.

Project 1241.8 Molniya Missile Boat

The missile boat of Project 1241.8 has been developed on the same basic platform as the Project 1242.1 boat. It differs from the predecessor by the missile armament only: it carries 16 Kh-35 [SSN-X-25 Switchblade] missiles of the Uran-E system instead of 4 missiles of the Moskit-E (SS-N-22 Sunburn) system. The Uran-E missile characteristics are similar to those of American Harpoons, but the missile boats of Project 12418 carry twice more missiles on board. The boats can be delivered to customers one year after signing a contract.

Vympel Joint Stock Shipbuilding Company (JSSC), based in the Volga River city of Rybinsk, is one of central Russia's largest shipyards specialising in series production of various types of river- and sea-going ships boats intended for diverse applications. At present the company serially builds boats up to 1,500 tons displacement intended for domestic and foreign customers both in naval and civil sectors. On of the major types of the vessels built by Vympel is the Project 1241.8 Molniya Missile Boat.

[...]

In January 1999 it was announced that Vympel and Rosvoorouzhenie were to deliver two Project 1241RE missile boats to Vietnam. The frigate will come in versions which include a powerful gunboat, a patrol ship, a plane shooter and a hunter for submarines. The pilot ship of the series is already under construction for Vietnam. The frigate's streamlined hull and low-profile superstructure provide an excellent hiding envelope for everything that generates noise or heat, reflects radar pulses or disturbs magnetic fields. Moreover, the superstructure can be coated with stealth materials that make it invisible to radars. Propelled by two powerful water jets, the ship can race across shallows at over 30 knots. Big fuel tanks and fuel-saving diesel engines allow it to carry out missions at up to 3 thousand nautical miles from home base. Despite the displacement of just 545 tons, the frigate carries a formidable array of weaponry on board. This includes eight Kh-35 [SSN-X-25 Switchblade] anti-ship cruise missiles with a range of over 130 kilometers, two torpedo tubes, several anti-aircraft missile batteries of the VIKHR-K and IGLA makes and a number of large-caliber machine-guns.
