Cigna sells Medicare business to Health Care Service for $3.3 billion

(Reuters) -Insurer Health Care Service Corp said on Wednesday it would buy Cigna's Medicare business that manages government-backed health insurance for people aged 65 and older for $3.3 billion in cash.

The sale consists of Cigna's Medicare lines, including Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplement and Medicare drug plans, as well as a unit called CareAllies that works with physician groups and other healthcare providers.

PDP- prescription drugs something. Pharmacy program of some sort. I’m sure they aren’t selling express scripts tho.

I’m not concerned about the cost of the plan, but the quality of the service. So far, Cigna has been the best service for us.

No it would not.

On average 80% of wha the average person spends on health care over their entire lifespan is spent during the last 2 years of their life… and the overwhelming majority of Americans live to be of an age where their last 2 years are when they are on Medicare.

Those other things are part of the system but not remotely match anywhere close to the spending Medicare does per year. Medicare is the elephant, everything else in the room is no bigger than a small dog.

Actually the biggest administrative overhead that add cost to health care are not Medicare.. that’s standardized. Your one off plans that want you to do something their way are where added costs add up, and why most folks will simply say, not taking your plan if you don’t follow Medicare process standards.

you mean CMS determines all the rules for medicare, Medicaid and chips. commerical rules are determined by the states.

I was on the claims payment side for 30 yrs.
the company's had to have x dollars set aside in reserves
