Like the way you absolve Trump from losing the House in 2018. The president is leader of the Republican Party. Losing the House meant the legislative agenda and the budget agenda got hampered and keeping the House should be among the president’s priorities. But, the organizing principle of trumpboys is Trump is winning, and losing is always somebody else’s fault.
Trump so far is running a good campaign this year. He pulled off one of the greatest election victories of all time in 2016. On a par with or even better than Harry Truman’s comback win of 1948. Trump got outhustled in 2020, asleep at the wheel while the Democrats rejiggered the rules to enable them to steal the election in multiple states; but, even so, the election was still close. (Did you know that the Demoracts kept the Green Party candidate and Kanye West off the ballot in almost all the battleground states? Given how close was that election, this alone made the difference.)
Trump is favored to be only the second person in U.S. history to serve two disconnected terms as President. Trumpboys who can’t tell Trump’s personality defects from his strengths do him a disservice. Trumpboys also do him a disservice by following his example of name-calling, being thin-skinned and making enemies of anybody not in the trumpboy cult. When we get some distance from this time period, Trump will be an interesting character study specifically because of his unevenness, like Patton. Well, at least if he wins this fall.
