I don’t think much of shock treatment. My mom had it, late 1940s, early 50s.
It may have helped her out initially, but I believe that later in her life it caused her a lot of problems.

My mom was one where a three-week series of electroshock treatments in her 40s cured her depression for life. OTOH, a neighbor’s relative needs to get periodic on-going treatments with no end in sight.
