I think your number might be a little off as the entire white population of the Confederate States was about 5 million people.
Yes it might be, may have gotten that confused with the north (2.7 million enlisted).
Although you have to remember the border states added perhaps another 1.5 million population and many fought for the south. Maybe more like 1.5 million counting the Border states.
