As far as I can tell, we don't have troops in Russia or China (yet), but it's only the start of 2024 and Biden's polling numbers aren't completely hopeless.
Why do we still have bases in Germany, Italy and Japan? Didn't they learn their lessons in 1945, and isn't everyone responsible dead now?
Note that the US military does not disclose the number of troops in situations of combat. Also, some relatively small bases have large numbers of local civilian employees, but some are just protection for diplomats. US military presence around the world is actually difficult to evaluate, except it is far too large.
If European countries were all heavily armed up themselves, it’d eventually be the most dangerous place in the world. The history on this is very clear.
