On Monday, January 22, 2024, Carroll County Deputies responded to a call for help. The caller who was at work in Greenwood reported that a knife wielding man was attempting to enter his home in the Gravel Hill area of Carroll County. He further stated that his wife and three children were inside the home hiding in a closet. The caller identified the suspect and gave a description of the vehicle.
As deputies responded to the scene, they came upon a vehicle fitting that description. Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop in the parking lot of Acy’s Store, but the subject fled on foot into the busy store. Deputies pursued and subdued him inside the store.Carroll deputies arrested Steve Lamar Goss, Jr., age 42 of Greenwood, and discovered that he had a single gunshot wound to the arm. Deputies rendered medical aid until Medstat arrived. Goss, along with Carroll deputies, was transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Goss was then booked into Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility on four counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary. Goss was already out on felony bond for possession of a weapon by a felon at the time of this incident.
While deputies were dealing with Goss at the store, other deputies continued to make their way to the residence of the original call. Upon arriving, they discovered that Goss had driven his 2500 GMC Pickup Truck into the dining room of the home after he had been unable to compromise the front door. The mother prayed and her children recited scripture even as they heard Goss kicking in the doors inside their home. He eventually found them hiding in the closet that was designated as the family’s safe room. The mother shot him as he entered the closet still holding the knife. Goss then fled the scene.
Sheriff Walker commended the father for having an emergency plan and preparing his wife and children for just such a situation. Walker said, “We can all learn a lot from this family about the importance of having an emergency plan in place in our homes and most importantly the power of prayer. I thank the Lord for this father’s preparation; the bravery shown by the mother and children, and that what could have been a tragedy was transformed into a testimony of their faith in God.”
Thanks for the pic. Face-Words-Deeds. Many criminals do not stop until incarcerated or eliminated.

I live in Carroll Co.,Ohio. No friends, my choice. Yes sir, rural area. Happy here.
Sadly, the taxpayers will have to pay for prosecuting this POS.
If ever there was a poster child for one in the head and two in the chest . . .
Good job Mom! But she should have plugged him a couple more times.
Ol' Steve Lamar never had a lick of sense... pass the biscuits please.
What's with these judges and parole boards? Who's to say he won't get out roaming the streets again?
What does the tat say and is that a rock on the other side?
Bubba’s going to enjoy nibbling on those ears.
With age does not always come wisdom.
NEVER would have happened if perp was NOT already out on “FELONY BOND”.

She hit and ended the threat.
That's a successful defense.
That's a passing grade in the live or die scale.
As a plus, her kids didn't see a man die.
That looks like a VW bug with its doors open.
And STOP when the threat is neutralized, or risk a manslaughter charge.
Correctamundo.
No gun = tragedy under those circumstances, especially since the husband apparently doesn’t understand the need for an outward-opening, solid core barrier door for a ‘safe room’.
Demons’ Eyes.
Has she been charged and arrested yet? Also; the guy is still alive, so he will be suing. It’s not fair to use a gun in a knife attack.
