Former Alabama Sen. Doug Jones (D) said that the new film “War Game” shows “how close” the U.S. came to losing democracy on Jan. 6, 2021.
During his appearance on CNN Saturday, the former lawmaker was asked by anchor Jim Acosta to share his thoughts about the new movie which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this week.
Jones, who was acting as the attorney general in the movie, said that the film is a reminder for the public about the possible outcomes of the attack on the Capitol.
“I think that these kinds of films are very, very important for the public to see, to be reminded of how closely we came on January 6, 2021, of losing our government, of losing our democracy,” Jones said.
The former senator also warned about “forces” in the country who are currently plotting how to execute a similar attack.
“And there are forces still out there that are making plans for the future doing the exact same thing or a variation of that,” Jones said.
The documentary portrays an exercise where members of the federal government, intelligence services and armed forces run a simulation in which a paramilitary group attempts to disrupt the certification of the 2024 presidential election that the sitting commander-in-chief fairly won.
The military group is called the “Order of Columbus” and shows some resemblance to QAnon and Oath Keepers.
The film’s director, Tony Gerber, suggested that the Biden Administration should be doing similar exercises.
“Absolutely, they should be,” Gerber said during his appearance on CNN Saturday.

What is this “losing democracy” baloney? No viable “democracy” was lost, only a couple of illusions and myths about what REAL democracy means.
The United States is NOT a democracy, no matter how many times that assertion is made. The US is a representative republic, elected by democratic means. Sometimes fools get elected, whether through a charm offensive, deceit, great gobs of campaign money or sometimes outright fraud. They are almost always quickly detected, if not by the voters of the district from which they are elected, then almost certainly by a majority of those outside that district. But the sacred thing is that outsiders are not supposed to be the ones that cast the votes for the representative of that district. But there are remedies, we all saw how quickly George Santos got booted. And since the elections recur at frequent intervals, the voters in the district can act on their own to remove an incompetent or ineffectual member.
Constant vigilance is a prime requirement, and should be the first course of action. But that is totally dependent on being informed, and well-armed with the actual facts, not made-up propaganda.
“Democracy”, indeed. A much-abused and poorly defined concept.
The former moron/senator needs a civics lesson
That’s why it astounded me hearing that from a former senator.
We have to point that out as long as they keep calling it that.
A democracy is where the loudest and meanest get to call the shots.
A republic is where the people have a person representing their side.. and vote accordingly.
or mob rule vs representative government
Recommend this senator should transition to a drama queen.
Of course they continue to misrepresent and from a former SENATOR for crying out loud.
You would think he’d know better!
It was so serious that a Select Committee in Congress had to DELETE Evidence and testimony to make sure only the right people are blamed for it.
I remember that he did serve his purpose.
Would you look at the TANKS, Machine Guns, the various other types of MILITARY WEAPONRY !!! Is a good thing Americans were there to take out democracy, in order that the REPUBLIC would LIVE.
And don’t forget the constitutional limitations.
Neither the people nor their representatives are supposed to be able to make government do whatever they want, no matter what a “vote” says.
Many a congresscritter and former congresscritter has become a drama queen
I’ll watch right after I watch the latest videos of bigfoot.
We almost lost the Democracy to an unarmed tourist group
The People came unarmed. Congress conducts business under fully armed guards. And Congress blames and continues to blame the People. Congress and former Congresscritters should do their jobs properly and STOP with their attempt to anger the People.
It’s calledagit prop for a reason folks been watching C span since the late 70’s & the Democrats have the profound religious belief set in theological concrete that the American taxpyer/voter is to stupid to wipe flush wash hands in the right order when using the toilet!
I, for one, will be thankful when we finally lose “their democracy”.
This is misery, not democracy. And if it is democracy, I don’t want it.
I would like to live in a Constitutional republic, which is also gone.
What we have is tyranny and authoritarianism.
LOL! Yeah, because a bunch of extremely orderly unarmed mostly middle aged Trump supporters and scads of Feds of course, were thisclose to overthrowing the republic.
Really!
Lighten up Jonesy boy. Have a Coke and smile. You talk like a friggin’ retarded looney toon.
