Let me ask a silly question because I have no idea. What would happen if a candidate or should I say, the nominee were to die lets say 2 or three days before the election in november. Who would take their place?

Technically we vote for slates of electors. In some states, the electors are required to vote for the name on the ticket, though I believe it is still an open question whether that can be made to stick.

If the candidate is dead at the time the electors vote, they can pick a different candidate. The obvious choice would be the VP, but I do not believe that the electors are bound to that. I believe they can choose any 35+ year old natural born citizen.
