American Family Radio (AFR), a broadcast division of American Family Association (AFA), announced on Wednesday (Jan. 24) that it is dropping well-known pastor Alistair Begg‘s daily radio program, “Truth for Life,” following Begg’s controversial remarks about Christians attending LGBTQ+ weddings.
In a September 2023 interview for his book “The Christian Manifesto,” Begg shared that he encouraged a grandmother to attend her grandson’s transgender wedding.
Begg said that he knew people wouldn’t like his answer, but that didn’t stop him. After confirming that the woman’s grandson understood that she doesn’t affirm his choice to marry a trans person, Begg said, “Well then, okay. As long as he knows that, then I suggest that you do go to the ceremony. And I suggest that you buy them a gift.”
Begg then told the grandmother, “Well, here’s the thing: Your love for them may catch them off guard, but your absence will simply reinforce the fact that they said, ‘These people are what I always thought: judgmental, critical, unprepared to countenance anything.’” ...
AFR Vice President Ed Vitagliano told the American Family Network (AFN), “Pastor Begg’s program will no longer air on American Family Radio. He is an excellent Bible teacher. We certainly wish him the best.” Begg, 71, is senior pastor of Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio. His radio ministry had been featured on approximately 1,800 radio outlets.
The decision no longer to air Begg’s radio program came after Vitagliano and AFA Vice President Walker Wildmon talked with the people who represent Begg. Vitagliano and Wildmon had hoped the call would result in “reconciliation.” However, Begg intends to stand by the advice he gave...

FYI
There is a very substantial line between endorsing sin (Especially with gift in hand) and being a judgmental, critical, unprepared to countenance anything... Christian, which in this case, amounts to a tu quoque argument with rectal sex involved that this “Christian Pastor” absolutely ignores. How do you consummate a marriage with anal, oral, and/or synthetic sex toys anyways?
Of all the hills to die on, why this one?
I mean, Alistair Begg has limited himself in that he won’t be able to use his distinct accent in quite so broad a forum to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Maybe God will use this to get AB on NPR. Very puzzling.
What exactly do you mean? There is no redeeming value of NPR or its listeners at all since God gave NPR to Satan as a going away present (Half-joking).
Another preacher I once admired and listened to. No longer.
For sure.
There are ways to graciously decline.
Whether the other person decides to take offense anyways, well, that's on them.
For many nothing less than complete compliance and capitulation is acceptable. No matter what you do and how gracious it is, it will be intentionally received wrong and used against you.
You mean the stand Begg took or the radio station?
This is the crux of the issue. A person is invited to a ‘ceremony’ to ‘celebrate’ the bond of ‘marriage’ of two persons of the same sex. Taking the whole counsel of the Living God if you attend such ceremony you are participating in the pagan religion of the day. You can be a faithful believer in the Living God of the Bible by adhering to a single scripture by proof texting it and ignoring the rest of the holy scriptures. People need to focus on the PLUS of LGBTQP+! There is NO LIMIT to this road of destruction. Would this teacher condone the attendance of a ceremony of a man and his sheep? Let’s take it a step further, how about a 40 year old man being married to a 12 year old girl? Love is love after all! Marriage ‘equality’ is all about the satan of the Bible having his kingdom on this earth. In the end you either stand on the whole counsel of God or you don’t. To participate in a pagan ceremony is to affirm and condone. It is no different than going to a temple to burn incense before a pagan god of wood or stone. Feel free to go! Tell them when you enter their ‘ceremony’, ‘hey man. Really cool ceremony you guys got here. No judgment man. Love is love!’ We are now living in the age of separating the wheat from the chaff! You don’t need to be hateful in your judgment. But judge! Make the righteous judgment to not attend a ceremony that celebrates the abomination acts that are mentioned in the Holy Scriptures of God’s Living Word! Be at peace in your judgment. If they hate you for turning down their invitation then so be it. At least at the final judgment you will have One that will judge with a righteous judgment!
I used to listen to Alistair Begg on Moody Broadcasting years ago - his messages were invariably interesting. Wonder if he is still on Moody and what they think about this - haven’t been in range of a Moody station in many years now.
Im not sure opening the church doors to satanic worshipers( homosexuals, trans and pedophiles) is a bridge I want to build.
otoh Closing church doors - and teachings, to someone with behaviors you find distasteful, isn't helping that person over come their sin....
As I said above, nothing but complete compliance and capitulation is acceptable to them.
ANY negative reaction they will consider hateful and judgmental even when it isn’t but done in love and graciousness.
There is no need to treat them any different in regular interactions with them, birthdays, holidays, graduations, visiting in the hospital, helping if needed, or ANY other area not related to their perverted lifestyle. However, a line does have to be drawn somewhere and there and *celebrating* and giving approval to THAT aspect of their lives is not acceptable.
That is NOT closing doors on them. I don’t affirm someone’s drug addiction or alcoholism so as not to alienate them. I will not affirm their theft, abuse of their families, prostitution, lying, adultery, or any other sin either.
Why is this kind of sexual sin treated different, with kid gloves?
And nobody is closing church doors by refusing to participate. They are still free to go to church and hear God’s word.
