Texas was the only sovereign nation to join the US. They can leave anytime they want.

This isn't quite right. Texas, by law, can succeed from itself, but not from the Union. Texas is the only state that can split itself into five new states.

The 1845 congressional resolution that admitted Texas as a state reads: "New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution.”

5 Texas’s would mean 10 more GOP Senators.

I’ll take your word for that, but I thought they could bail as they did in the civil war. There weren’t many union armies or naval blockades in Texas during that war.

iirc secession at the state level was never judicially adjudicated. the feds decided that they were wrong, and then refused to leave state land. a state citizen fired the first shot of that war. true, it did not end well for the states that seceded, but johnson was never tried for treason, even after the war. his so-called treason? ...never judicially adjudicated.
