I’ve read they already have a state militia, the Texas State Guard. Don’t know if they’re capable of anything, though.

We have more than that. And, Gov Greg said the quiet part out loud to put them on notice to get ready:

The Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other Texas personnel are acting on that authority, as well as state law, to secure the Texas border.
