I’d say most “African Americans” can’t trace back their leniage past ggg grandpa’s boat ride.
I just saw something recently that claimed most of not all of them have some white ancestor.

I doubt if they can go back half that far. The ‘boat rides’to the U.S. legally ended in 1808, the first day the Constitution allowed for it. So much for the Founders being all in on slavery.

The book and later TV series ‘Roots’ made lots of blacks think they could trace their family history back to Africa, but as it later turned out, it was a work of fiction claiming to be real.
