Two U.S. Navy SEALs are missing off the coast of Somalia after having fallen into the water during a nighttime boarding mission on Thursday, according to two U.S. officials.

The officials said that the SEALs had fallen into the water one after the other during the boarding of a vessel by boat in the Gulf of Aden.

It was unclear what had prompted them to board the vessel.

For SEALs, it is standard protocol to jump into the water to rescue a fellow SEAL when they fall overboard, said a U.S. official.

Search operations for the missing SEALs are continuing, said a U.S. defense official.

The Gulf of Aden has become a hotspot of U.S. Naval activity as the Houthi militants in Yemen have carried our more than two dozen attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since mid-November.

Why are the media playing word games with these terrorist operatives? They are not militants or freedom fighters, etc. FJB removed their terrorist designation in 2021, WHY? Perhaps they sent their 10% to the โ€œbig guyโ€ to have it removed!

They should have never made this public. These guys operate under the radar and this just exposes them and to what they are doing, which is supposed to be classified.

The details of this situation just donโ€™t make sense to an old squidy like me. OpSec has gone to shit. Every operator doing these types of mission carry IR beacons that are activated in case of these types of events. Helos would be able to spot them immediately and execute an evac. This stinks to me.

Just what I was thinking. We had personal locators on every soldier that they activated in an emergency.

Reagan had 2 terms and an average of 2200 GIs died per year during those 8 years.

During Grenada, 4 SEAL Team 6 SEALs drowned.

An event that was caused entirely by the bumbling incompetence of dumbasses that had no idea as to what conditions the guys were facing.

And, because of the "political" aspect...probably do not care to this day.

Timelines and execution times were moved back and forth, mostly without any viable HUMINT or SIGINT input.

The upper level "planners" did not even consult a tide chart or weather map.

Additionally, the DZ coordinates furnished to the transport pilots were in question, causing one of the transports to completely miss the DZ.

The entire fiasco was absolutely preventable and had NOTHING to do with the competence and abilities of the Team.

As a result of the incident, despite attempts at obfuscation and downright lying that reached all the way to the SECDEF, much of the procedures and intel analysis was given back to the Teams and was conducted wholly in-house (for the most part) by the Teams themselves in most of their future operations.

A fact that pissed off much of the desk drivers, all of whom had probably never suffered much more than a paper cut or a staple scratch.

The future Milleys and Austins, etc, of the later military hierarchy.

SOCOM came into being a few years later, my impression was that the SEALs for many years had a cocky carelessness that wasn’t helped by some negative influences and legacy of Mancinko.

These are same the people who exposed the seal team who took out Bin Laden.
Traitors, every one of them.

It seems to me that the first name of this Navy specialization was "Underwater Demolition Team" (frogmen) specialists who rolled off rubber boats with air tanks and snorkel masks.

What is this deal of being endangered by "falling in the water"? Have they forgotten how to swim??

And your point?

I said nothing political, just that I hated losing the America's finest for no gain.

I also noted that our DEI military isn't up to recent standards.
