The Army's recruiting of white soldiers has dropped significantly in the last half decade, according to internal data reviewed by Military.com, a decline that accounts for much of the service's historic recruitment slump that has become the subject of increasing concern for Army leadership and Capitol Hill.
The shift in demographics for incoming recruits would be irrelevant to war planners, except it coincides with an overall shortfall of about 10,000 recruits for the Army in 2023 as the service missed its target of 65,000 new soldiers. That deficit is straining the force as it has ramped up its presence in the Pacific and Europe: A smaller Army is taking on a larger mission and training workload than during the peak of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- leading to soldiers being away from home now more than ever.
A total of 44,042 new Army recruits were categorized by the service as white in 2018, but that number has fallen consistently each year to a low of 25,070 in 2023, with a 6% dip from 2022 to 2023 being the most significant drop. No other demographic group has seen such a precipitous decline, though there have been ups and downs from year to year.

When I was in the Army in the 80's and 90's, the bulk of the combat occupations were filled by white men, with the minorities choosing to hide out in the support jobs like cooks and truck drivers.
Guess all those military-aged males from Latin America and the Middle-East will have to be the trigger-pullers. Oh wait...

I’m retired Navy. NavAir to be specific. The undermining of our military by what we today call The Woke began many years ago. During the Clinton years, I attended a mandatory lecture where the subject was competition is bad. And, sexuality is none of our business.
Nearly everyone in the lecture hall revolted at the concept. Nearly. Not all. This fact did not deter the proponents of this nonsense.
As the years went on more such nonsense was introduced to our troops. They were specifically targeting JO’s. As time passed, many longstanding criteria for many specialties were slowly watered down. Frog boil concept. All in the name of Equity and Diversity.
This watering down accelerated greatly during the Hussein administration. The Great Purge of dedicated patriots in the senior officer ranks and the forced introduction of females into combat ranks.
Especially, in elite units. Anyone who raised concerns was the subject of ridicule and subsequently dismissed.
Then came the open embrace of homosexuality and lesbianism in the ranks. Quickly followed by so-called Transgenders.
The Woke dominate the senior ranks. Obama saw to this via his Great Purge.
President Trump was too preoccupied with assaults upon his presidency 24/7/365 by the Dems and RINO stealth co-conspirators to tackle this issue.
Dementia Joe is a figurehead for the Obama Agenda. Only a fool would volunteer to serve such an abomination of our military’s actual mission.
A retired Black NCO whom my brothers knew and worked with in the 80s commented that when he had race and discipline issues in the military, it was with White Northerners, not White Southerners. Indeed, in civilian life in the South, Black veterans tended to be respected for their service and ability. An older Southern white whom I knew in that era did not like or trust Blacks as a group but was unstinting and sincere in his praise of a retired Black Army Major who had been his boss at IBM.
