A slew of new laws signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in the fall are set to take effect in California. They include more Airbnb cancellation refunds, a new state mushroom and protections for complaining about your wages at work.

A landlord can no longer prevent tenants in California from storing and charging their e-scooters and electric bikes in their apartment, unless the building has a safe, long-term storage unit. Senate Bill 712 takes effect on Jan. 1.

This is going to result in a lot of people burning to death

That is EXACTLY the first thing I thought and it’s going to be happening pretty soon.

INSURANCE companies are already hinkey in Calif.

I predict a wholesale exit by those companies.

Last week he gave free health insurance for the ENTIRE WORLD courtesy of California taxpayers. All you gotta do is walk over the border.

The price to insure California apartments just went up. Or, cali will be an insurance desert.

That’s dangerous, as you noted. Also, insurance companies are leaving California. This latest dumb law will just make that decision easier.

But maybe that’s what Newsom wants. Then the state can become the insurer. More power in the hands of the politicians. And the cost? Nobody has time to think about that.

As e-bikes proliferate, so do deadly fires blamed on exploding lithium-ion batteries

These aren’t typical fires, said New York City Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. The batteries don’t smolder; they explode.

“The number of fire incidents has rapidly increased. Other cities across the country have begun seeing these issues as well, and municipalities that are not yet experiencing this phenomenon may be facing similar incidents in the future,” Kavanagh told the commission. “We have reached a point of crisis in New York City, with ion batteries now a top cause of fatal fires in New York.”

Another new law for California this year:

All-gender bathroom signage
As of New Year’s Day, any single-occupancy bathroom in every business across California must now put up an all-genders sign on the door. “Restrooms are a necessity of life, and access to them influences our ability to participate in public life,” California Assemblymember Phil Ting, bill author, said in a statement. “Restricting access to single-occupancy restrooms by gender creates problems of safety, fairness, and convenience.”

Indeed California never looks at the numbers only votes it’s a party policy.

But on the bright side fire-fighting is an honorable profession and more of them will be needed.

$20/hour for unskilled fast food workers.

Also illegals will get free medical in California starting today.

Pizza Hut has already fired its entire delivery staff due to the high cost of labor.

Don’t ask Newsom how it’s all going to be paid for, especially as California’s tax base flees to Texas, Florida and Idaho - and is replaced with welfare recipients.

He’ll head to Montana when the SHTF - and blame Republicans, as he always does.

Not quite doomed. They chose a really good new State Mushroom, the Chanterelle. Delish, and at least it’s not Psilocybin, which I expected when I read the headline.

As a once and former resident (and native, dang it) of the once-Golden-State, I miss nothing, nothing at all about Cali.

Okay, weather and Yosemite. But that's it.

Once my husband's mother dies, we will never go back.

I have such nostalgia for California of old; the natural beauty, the weather, the beaches, the clean, tree lined streets, the laid-back atmosphere.

Now it's filth, homeless, graffiti, trash everywhere, exorbitant prices, and endless traffic.
