Curiously, in Maine the SOS is not elected by the people but appointed by the legislature. I think she got blasted pretty bad in private by even the Dems.

The Maine SoS gets nominated by the state house and Senate, not by the voters, IIRC. Gerrymandered for the blue area of the state.
